Volkswagen CrossBlue SUV Concept unveiled – Animation

The CrossBlue features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a TDI engine with two electric motors, a DSG transmission, and an electric all-wheel-drive system dubbed ‘propshaft by wire’, and offers economy of 2.1 litres per 100 kilometres, or 134.5 mpg (Volkswagen’s manufacturer estimated fuel economy rating in US gallons is 89 mpg combined in electric mode and 35 mpg as a hybrid). The CrossBlue was designed in Germany under the leadership of Walter de Silva (Head of Design, Volkswagen Group) and Klaus Bischoff (Head of Design, Volkswagen Brand), in close co-operation with Volkswagen of America. Painted in ‘CrossBlue Glass Flake’, the concept is 4987 mm long, 2015 mm wide, and 1733 mm high. A wide track of 1686 mm (front) and 1696 mm (rear) give it a confident stance on the road, as do 21-inch alloy wheels shod with 235/45 tyres, and flared wheelarches. Contrasting with the body colour is a stainless-steel trim that runs all around the SUV’s lower section. The CrossBlue has two ‘fuel doors’: one for the diesel tank on the passenger side, and one covering two electrical sockets on the driver’s side. The first socket is to charge the lithium-ion battery and the second can be used to connect electrical devices. While the CrossBlue concept car is equipped with six individual seats in three rows, in a production version, the second row would have the option of three seats to make it a full seven-seater. Headroom is excellent throughout the vehicle: 1077 mm up front, 1020

2013 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Silver

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz M-Class will likely see few changes following its redesign for the 2012 model year. M-Class is the smaller of the brand’s two midsize SUVs, the other being the Mercedes-Benz R-Class. M-Class has seating for 5 and has standard all-wheel drive. The ML350 4MATIC uses a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 302 horsepower. The ML350 BlueTEC has a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 240 horsepower. The BlueTEC diesel is emissions legal in all 50 states and uses an exhaust-treatment system that requires periodic dealer maintenance. Mercedes-Benz will add V8 powered M-Class models, and a rear-drive version of the ML350 during calendar-year 2012, possibly as 2013 models. ML350s use a 7-speed automatic transmission. Safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, front- and rear-side airbags, and a driver-knee airbag. Other available safety features include a night-vision camera with pedestrian detection, blind-spot alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. A sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and power tailgate are standard. A navigation system, hard drive for storing digital-music files, and leather upholstery are optional. The available Dynamic Handling Package includes an air suspension and Mercedes’ ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM, which is designed to counteract body lean in fast corners. The optional ON&OFFROAD Package includes an air suspension that’s adjustable for six different road and
